Training
On top of Big Boambee Mt
Submitted by ruben on Tue, 2008-06-17 10:58.Chris took a pic of Emma, Di and me - after she had made us walk up every single mountain between Crossmaglen and Coffs. That was last week, this weekend we are all heading up to the Gold Coast hinterland to take part in the Mini Kokoda on Sunday. A 30km walk up and down the mountains. Then on Monday I am meeting Matt somewhere on the Goldcoast. We will then start cycling inland before heading down the dividing range (via pubs of course).
I'm a bit ditsy today so here is my checklist for everyone else to remind me....
Sealy Lookout
Submitted by ruben on Tue, 2008-06-10 14:20.Chris Di and I spent Saturday walking up and down Sealy Lookout. We climbed it three times, although Chris only did it two and a half times because she is allowed to, being our trainer and all. The tarmas is a killer, I'm glad the KC will be on dirt. My bike ran out of petrol on the way home (thanks for switching on the reserve kids...) so I was lucky enough to get an extra 2k pushing my motorbike over the hill past the Big Banana. meh.
The Peak Trail
Submitted by ruben on Thu, 2008-05-15 17:54.Last week we had a great walk up and along the peak trail from Crossmaglen to Wedds Road. What a great walk, thanks Chris!
This week we are planning on doing it again but adding in a return via Bongil Bongil. Could be an all day-er......
Civic Duty
Submitted by em on Tue, 2008-05-06 11:49.Well what a night was had by all who dared to climb the mountainous terrain from Mt Nimmel to the Numinbah Valley.
Ruben has so delightfully described the walk I have little to add bar the fact that on our way home we performed a civic duty by ridding Queensland of one more cane toad. The experience was far from satisfying when I ended up with cane toad blood on my legs! However it was at this stage that we were really close to home so there was little time to contemplate the consequences of our actions as we near ran to get to the gate of the Environment Centre. Dianne did finally catch us and we wandered in together, the very picture of a team!
Gold Coast Training
Submitted by ruben on Mon, 2008-05-05 17:24.This weekend we had our first training walk on the actual trail.
We drove up on Friday night to the Numinbah Environment Centre just near the Hinze Dam. The staff kindly met us and showed us around before we bedded down for the night. The next morning we bolted 7km into Anaconda camping supplies at Nerang for some SHOPPING!! Then straight back again to meet the rest of the teams at 11am.
Here is a list of the teams Southern Cross Uni is sponsoring. We all had some, if not all, contingents show up - the links only work if you are logged into the kokodachallenge.com website:
Bongil Bongil (Repton to Sawtell and Back Again).
Submitted by ruben on Thu, 2008-05-01 14:11.Last weekend we walked from Repton through Bongil Bongil and along the Bundagen Rainforest Walk towards Sawtell. Here is a picture of Emma having just picked up a passenger, in the shape of a big Golden Orb Spider.
We came back in the darkness and found our torches reflecting off the glinty green spider eyes hiding beneath the leaf litter. Chris identified the warbling song of a yellow robin wishing us all a good night. Cups of tea and Di's slice finished the night off ina very hobbity fashion.
