Three Busy Days...

Flight of the Gibbons is a well organised and highly professional outfit who herd tourists through the rainforest canopy. The guides very kindly took our cameras and photographed us as we cavorted through the trees. So here are a few of the many happy pics. I'm not quite sure of the point, fun I guess.

It was fun and interesting. The guides told us a little about the local villagers who had traditionally worked the forest. They hammer bamboo stakes into the trees and climb them to get at the sweet sweet honey. They also grow tea and coffee. The older tea leaves would be fermented and chewed like tobacco. I doubt they still do much of that as they have squillions of us tourists passing through and we just seem to leak money. I saw a few butterflies and heard lots of birds - over 230 species in the area. The gibbons steered clear of the noisy squealing tourists for some reason. A lotof the plantlife does seem similar to Australia, lots of lovely strangler figs.

Kawilla

Thursday night we went to Kawilla Stadium to watch 4 guys from Kiat Busaba (or Lanna Muay Thai, our school). It was a pretty exciting night for me. The highlight for Ev, I think, was whizziing through the city streets in the back of Andy's ute. I was trying to suss out the rules and failing at that. Me and sports is like a hamster brain surgeon.

Nine Lives

Last night (Friday) we went to 'Nine Lives' for some Japanese food and to listen to Suzanne and Rachel sing some jazz numbers. I think Ev was worried about imminent Spirit of Jazz Possession. He managed to get through the evening unscathed. It was a small crowded and lively bar, I liked it. Hopefully I can go back sometime. Donna had some great pictures up for sale as did some other artists. Chiang Mai has an energetic and friendly ex-pat community.
