The Great Barrier Reef

During our stay at 1770 we took a boat out to the coral cay, Lady Musgrave Island. The sea and wind was against us on the way out so the 90 minute voyage was extremely unpleasant. Much vomit was thrown.

On arrival we had a too brief look around the island and saw the fearless Noddies and Terns. The island stunk of guano and was full of the birds hanging around with nothing much to do. We were whisked off the island again before we could infect the environment with our disgusting human ways.

Back on the boat and the pontoon we jumped in and snorkelled around as only snorkellers can. I was pretty happy snorkelling all day. Cheri managed to persuade the crew to put her ashore for the most part so that she could relax with her avian friends. I swam to the shore and saw lots of fascinating corals and creatures. Granny Z and the boys had lots of fun lolloping around the reef.

I made friends with a French-Swiss chap called Jean-Claude who was cycling from Cairns to Sydney. A very happy bloke who was really enjoying himself. I took a couple of snaps of him which I just emailed to his wife and daughter. Oddly enough we bumped into him again in Maryborough on our way home. I'm hoping he'll drop by on his way through Coffs Harbour. I really need to finish rebuilding my bicycle so that I can keep him company for a day.

The voyage home was much more pleasant for everyone. Despite my getting trapped beneath a sleeping Emrys and my full bladder.
