Civic Duty

Captain Di on the very nasty Hill

Well what a night was had by all who dared to climb the mountainous terrain from Mt Nimmel to the Numinbah Valley.

Ruben has so delightfully described the walk I have little to add bar the fact that on our way home we performed a civic duty by ridding Queensland of one more cane toad. The experience was far from satisfying when I ended up with cane toad blood on my legs! However it was at this stage that we were really close to home so there was little time to contemplate the consequences of our actions as we near ran to get to the gate of the Environment Centre. Dianne did finally catch us and we wandered in together, the very picture of a team!

The self indulgent pain of the last few kilometres was interrupted by a call from Liz and boy what a blessing that was. Spirits were a little low as we picked our way excruciatingly slowly down the steep and treacherous last hill and the call from Liz kept us going. So when next contemplating sending cake or cream buns perhaps a call will suffice to one of the weary campaigners.

We have likened some in our team to the black night from Monty Python's Holy Grail. The never give up attitude is alive and well and will see us through to the end of the Kokoda Challenge. Don't ever expect we will give in to pain or fear or even small flesh wounds....
